i was reading the english handouts just now when i came across an article which criticizes the use of
BIG BOMBASTIC WORDS. can anyone tell me what "
let your EXTEMPORANEOUS DESCANTINGS and UNPREMEDITATED EXPATIATIONS have INTELLIGIBILITY and VERACIOUS VIVACITY, without RODOMONTADE or THRASONICAL BOMBAST. SEDULOUSLY avoid all POLYSYLLABIC PROFUNDITY, POMPOUS PROLIXITY, PSITTACEOUS VACUITY, VENTRILOQUIAL VERBOSITY, and VANILOQUENT VAPIDITY. Shun DOULE-ENTENDRES, PRURIENT JOCOSITY, and PESTIFEROUS PROFANITY, OBSCURANT or APPARENT." MEANS? this example given seemed so Greek to me. according to the journalist, it is part of business-writing. WOA. O.O the journalist was also shooting at TTDurai for using ponderous substitutes which misled someone less educated. ADULTS. -.o
big words always give impressions of profundity. but sometimes sentences too big makes readers lose interest, just like the bold one above. ahaha.
there were different kinds of model essays in the handouts. i like Jeffrey Archer's "false impressions". it was action-packed and movie-liked. i inspire to write something like that tml. all the suspense and sadistic kinda action scenes. the primary school kinda compositions are boring but i was told that Cambridge markers actually like them. DANG.knock my head on the wall mann.
i write better for narratives and need more practice on expository. those factual essays are too factual and it's like answering social studies SEQ. but come to think of it, expository are more realistic and useful in JC. i have to take more risks in writing!
it's so sad that i do not have as much chinese handouts as the english ones. i do not have the compo guides too. haiz. im desperate to score in chinese! I MUST DO WELL FOR OLVLS HCL. or i wld have wasted all my time on hcl... gwarr.. well, i hope i can write something good tml for HCL compo too.

the moment leticia came to me to get her hair tied, she pouted and sighed, saying that she hasnt common test. i was totally stunned. COMMON TESTS... COMMON TESTS... ohshit this word hasnt come across my mind. she asked with so worriedly that her worries worry me too. COMMON TESTS. it is the next CAPITAL LETTERS in sec4. O.O
i brought loads of food to school today. my house is packed with goodies... bak gwa, pineapple tarts, chocolates, sweets, oranges etc. and i dont think we can finish them without getting a sore throat or wadevr. haha. i shared the cookies and walnut cake with ppl in my class. clara chenyu jiatying and zh(who really loves everything edible :p) love the cookies. the cookies were gone so fast that i didnt have to bring them next door for huiting or carissa. HAHA.
i felt super tired during every lesson cos i havent been sleeping well during the holidays. yea. surin was like 'it's only 9am and you're already struggling to stay awake. how do you survive the rest of the day?!" yea. she's right. i cld hardly stay awake for all the lessons esp maths. even now as i type i feel super sleepy, and im still not done with the stupid journal. wad can i write?! LOL.
arghhhh.
elaine chng didnt come today. 4/3 was screaming hooray and xinyue was like "how come today's english is not a 3-period lesson?!' seriously, who can stand a few minutes with her in class? i didnt do well for both e and amaths test. my emaths paper is so messy i cannt even understand my own handwriting. FYI, i was half-asleep while doing tht paper. expected results anyw =x i wldnt play with common tests this time. >.< i promise.
after sch huiting went down to the canteen with me. surprisingly, we saw no other seniors(our batch) there. rare sight. LOL. cos usually we wld expect to find zhiwen and xinyi sitting down eating lunch. haha. ht and i werent hungry so i went to find mommiie with joanne. haha. they were doing pressure wrksht and then turned to ask me a qns when i realised i need to revise physics badly. PRESSURE. it seems easy but i dont have the confidence. haha, talking abt physics, i suddenly think of mr pandian. when i was walking to my class in the morning he came down from the stairs and then smiled at me. then i gave him the o.O look. HAHA! funny. :D
ohyea, anyw i sat down thr and me and elaine talked abt her bag.
me : is this your bag?E: yeame: you shldnt use this bag; it is non-biodegradable. use something made of wood :DE: (laughs amusingly) WAAAAAA.... USE WOOD....me: why do you need to carry such a big bag?E: hey! u duno that time when i was pregnant with you, i had to carry big bags. if not how to put all the pampers?!me: i dont need pampers when im in ur womb! （laughs very hard)E: u duno that time it rained and there was thunder. WHO KNOWS WHEN YOU WILL POP OUT. HAHAjoanne: huh?!LOL. that;s my mom. wahahahaa. how ridiculous can we get? hee. huiting was laughing so hard she hit my... again. -.- HAHA! seriously, girls are so wonderful. we can actually link a bag to pampers and then thunder!!! no wonder girls are better at oral. :D

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR Y'ALL! :D

i have enjoyed chinese new year so far cos it was quite a long break(fri-tues) and cos i ignored my hmwk. who in the right mind would stay at home and do probability and comprehension and journal and graphs when one shld be enjoying once in a year new year? go out somewhr and get more hongbaos luh! besides it aint good to 'du shu' during new year holidays? LOL
i went arnd to visit my relatives. i love my grandma's hse most. cos that was when i get to see so many ppl and the place so filled with smiles and laughter. then i get to see my cousins all in pretty clothes and there will be loads of rubbish for us to snack! PLUS my uncle who will gamble with us. HAHA. he prepared a whole bag of coins all ready for us to win. :D adults during cny are so generous manns. hee. on the first day i also gathered with my cousins my abt my age and we talked abt career and JCs and polys. i have not planned my future! so it's always good to listen to ppl's experiences and opinions. i like talking to my cousins. nobody's pressurized.
on the second day i had my mummy picked a pair of pants for me. haha. went grandma's hse again. my sixth aunt is so nice. she gave me a whole container of homemade pineapple tarts becos i love the ones she bakes. :D i help her advertise. haha. anrd 3, xuanyi wendy xuanbin xuanhao baobao and my brother went to JEC to catch 'JUST FOLLOW LAW'. it was hilarious but the part whr they exchanged bodies was super lame. and jack neo didnt even bother to change them back-.-
after that movie i went to my other aunt's hse. my dearest cousin, HL, HAS LEFT FOR LONDON! i tried hard not to cry when we(aunt's family and i) sent her to the airport. she'll be there with her hubby for 2-3 years! I WILL MISS HER BADLYYY!!!
chu3(i believe some ppl do know codes, like carissa. haha) was interesting cos it was the first time i went arnd to bai nian with my friends. HAHA. it was quite fun except that i was QUITE terribly bullied and 'condemned'. gwarrrr. i also dont like travelling so much. HUITING STILL HASNT KICKED THE BAD HABIT OF SLAPPING MY... alright -.o
we went to quite a few ppl's home and played cards. the girls were very funny(esp geyi) and the silly boys kept laughing at duno-wth-they-think-is-funny. LOL
